Heather and Yaron's Wedding Blog

News Flash…Planning a wedding takes a lot of work! I’m sure that most of you know this already. Well, it was news to Yaron and I. We live in Brooklyn but decided to get married in Philly. It’s where we lived while he was in business school and the place our relationship really solidified and where we fell in love.

I’ve decided to share the part of my wedding planning because I think it’s very important. If you decide to plan a destination wedding or a wedding in a city that you do not live in, make sure you marry a man who cares about the flowers and the band and the food and the drinks and the invitations and everything as much as you do.

Thank god for my husband. He was seriously one of the most involved grooms in the history of getting married. We could never have pulled off the wedding that we had if we didn’t work as a team. He helped pick out the flowers and helped me design my invitations. He even helped to write the thank you’s and found our wedding band. The experience proved to me that we were going into the marriage as a team and that we would be able to tackle any obstacles that came our way.

The best thing that he did was made me stick to our budget. I will not be the first bride to admit that you get caught up in all the wedding glamour but somehow become blind to price tags. It begins to feel like monopoly money! Well, this is when Yaron’s degree in business came handy. He made me keep a running excel spreadsheet of every cent we spent. I was horrified at first by this idea. I myself had never really lived by a budget and I certainly didn’t want to start with my wedding.

Once I started to see how much money you can spend on the craziest things I began to really get into it. We had a beautiful wedding but we also saved allot of money. Mostly by doing many of the details on our own. Yes, It meant more effort on our part but in the end we saved a ton!

I have adopted living by a budget to my everyday life now. I don’t always love it and Yaron and I certainly don’t see eye to eye on how we spend our money. But there is something to be said that once you see how you are spending your money on paper…you think twice about weather you really need something or not.
