Location, Location, Location!

Location is everything, right?? Not just in weddings, but in life. So what’s more important than making sure your guests get to your wedding location? Not much! So guide your guests to the great outdoors or a gala at the Plaza and get creative!

Ask your invitation designer if they can create a custom map, as whimsical as your event or as formal as your fete (remember that your invitations set the tone of the day and your map should match). If you opt not to work with your invitation designer on this element you can contract custom map companies to do the job or do it yourself. Some websites even offer complimentary assistance so you can create your own custom map. Check out Wedding Mapper for the tools to DIY.
Hand drawn or computer generated, follow a few simple rules: don’t include too many markers or guests may get confused; include accommodation spots and travel sites when you have out of town guests; give precise directions from site one to site two if your event is at multiple locations; include any necessary parking information at all locations; and don’t forget to include the address (for those that opt to use Map Quest or a car navigation system). And don’t forget to include detailed directions and maps on your wedding website as well! Often, elements of the invitation will go missing and guests will turn to your site for last minute guidance to your event.

Regardless of who or how the map gets completed, have some fun and mark notable spots like your first kiss together, first date, or favorite place to watch the sun set. Use your map not only to get your guests from A to B but to welcome them into your world too. Function and fun will leave a lasting impression!
