Drum Call

The African Dance was an unexpected treat by Gwen and Jonas. This is truly diverse celebrating.
Surprise everyone by opening your ceremony with African Drums. There is a hush in the audience (hopefully, they're not shocked and confused). Then, in the distance, a succession of rhythmic beats. Ancient instruments fill the air. Regally, majestically, and powerfully, the bride enters. Your subjects rise in respect and awe! It's a moving experience.
In the African Diaspora, the drum is used to tell many stories of celebration. How you want your story told is very much up to you. There are many different rhythms and songs that come from Africa. Learning what you want will be a wonderful journey.
Atiba Kwabera-Wilson is the artistic director of Songhai Djeli, a folkloric performance ensemble dedicated to the musical traditions from Africa. Their audiences are thrusted into an experience of edu-tainment. By creating a joyful presentation, your story will be told, remembered and shared like the griots of antiquity.
