Felicia and Ernest's Wedding Blog

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my wedding. Ernest and I had a lot of fun on our cruise. Now 3 1/2 years later, we’re living a great life together in New York. We keep our lives full by pursuing our creative endeavors. I’m a jewelry designer –- www.harujewelry.com -- and Ernest is a motion-graphics designer.
The idea of a “destination wedding” was one that had a very organic being. Neither of us had a grand vision of what our wedding should be like, although Ernest always pictured a handfull of people at our wedding. Our wedding felt more like a vacation adventure with a twist. When I think of weddings, I think of all the hoopla and the stress of who will be in the wedding, what will your colors be, what will the reception meal be like, etc. You end up inviting so many people that you never get to spend any quality time with them.
Instead of spending a lot of money on making sure our wedding guests enjoyed our wedding, we spent money on us. After all, every bride will tell you that your wedding day goes by at the blink of an eye and you never really get to relax and enjoy your moment without worrying about something not going according to your “dream” plan. In my world, worry doesn’t equal FUN.
To make sure we included our family and friends in our happy occasion, we planned a cocktail party in New York about a month after our wedding. It was great! It gave us a chance to really spend time with everyone and truly have fun! We made sure to incorporate the island theme of our wedding into the cocktail party. We had a special island-themed cocktail made by City Hall Restaurant, cupcakes with blue icing to match the color of the ocean, and we gave everyone miniature beach-themed candle favors.
When planning your wedding, remember the golden rule: Be true to yourself and fiancé … don’t cave in to the pressure to have the wedding that everyone else wants you to have.
Best of luck!
Felicia
