Dark 'N Stormy: A Destination Wedding Cocktail

POSTED BY Cassandra Bromfield, 17 August 2007

Mix ingredients together in an old-fashioned glass over cracked ice, and serve.
It's the national drink in Bermuda. A blend of Dark Rum and Ginger Beer. Depending how stormy you want it, add more or less rum. Now we had fun with this drink. At first I kept calling it Dark' n Lovely. OK they had a good laugh on my account, but as the bartender would make refills the drink got a little darker and stormier. Then eventually someone was calling it Dark' n Horny. This is probably the whole idea.

Here's an idea. If you like the idea of a beach wedding but cannot get to 'The Rock', create your beach theme wedding using this national drink to start things off at your cocktail hour. Ask your bartender to pull back on the rum, your guest don't need to be drunk, but they should enjoy the blend of dark rum and ginger beer. Be sure and serve a non alcoholic version. Choosing a themed drink for the cocktail hour is money saving too. You are more likely to get a discount on one type of alcohol and can return unopened bottles. If you have an assortment of liquor and only one person orders a Whiskey Sour you have paid a bottle price for one drink.

Bermuda has many more intoxicating drinks, but this was my favorite, well it was the only one I tried.
