Make Up, Please!

POSTED BY Cassandra Bromfield, 09 August 2007

I don’t wear much make up -- much to the chagrin of family and friends -- lipstick is pretty much it. I do love those pretty, colorful packages. If it were my wedding day, I would probably buy everything; practice, practice and still come out looking like a drag queen on acid. That’s not because I don’t know how to apply makeup -- I can’t see a thing without my glasses.

Hiring a makeup artist can save you from this very embarrassing outcome. To find the right artist, begin with word of mouth. Friends and colleges can have the best recommendations. Pricing for this service can range from about $100 to more than $500. Traveling might be extra. The higher or lower the price does not determine who is the best; be sure to see some of their work.

Some artist will include your makeup for touch-ups later in the day. Have a trial run of how you would like your makeup for the big day; you should both be on the same page.

Remember, time is money and this extra time might be at an extra cost. Always have it in writing what you get for the money. All these costs might be out of the budget, many companies and department stores (Mac, Sephora, Aveda or your favorite), will give you a little lesson even if you don’t make a purchase. Then you can practice, practice and practice.

Here are some hot artists to check out:
