The Dress

POSTED BY Cassandra Bromfield, 07 August 2007

That Dress, that dress, the oh so perfect frock of the century. So many styles, so many fabrics and ideas because you are getting married only once (you hope). From magazines, to TV shows, to the Internet, you will be bursting at the seams. How in the world do you pick the dress that means everything in the world?

First, I suggest, GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF! Drama Queens make really bad decisions. They can't ever be satisfied because obsessing is their first love.

Second, create a vision of your day. Make a scrap book, cut out pictures of magazines and write down ideas you love. Look at shapes that flatter your figure. Then, when you shop, you will only go toward dresses that work for you.

Third, start at the top, see what it looks like if you had a million dollars. If your budget can not handle the sky, then translate that into a less-expensive version. A dressmaker may be able to reproduce the look for less. I believe about ½ the cost of an original sounds about right for a skilled seamstress (never ask a designer to recreate another designers piece).
Note: Do not assume a $5,000 dress could be made for $500 or less. Check the business' credentials, see samples and ask for references.

Fourth, when you are shopping, take a shoe with the heel height for the big day and underwear like a strapless bra and waist cincher. Take notes, highlight and have fun!

Save Money Wear A Short Dress

Want to save some money? Choose a dress you can wear again. Like a short dress. This can still be very elegant. Pick something you will wear on your honeymoon.

  • When choosing a short dress, make sure your shoes are very stylish since they know they will be seen.
  • Opt for very luxurious fabrics, like silks. This will feel really nice on the body, and he will love how it feels on you.
  • Still want to wear a long dress down the aisle? Get a three-piece gown, one top, and two skirts, long and short. This bride below changes into long shorts for her outdoor wedding fun.

Showing off those legs is very popular today. Your look is chic, fashionable and you will have just as many options in short-dress styles. The wedding can still be over-the-top FAB-U-LOUS!

One more thing, make a statement with stockings that pack a punch:
